Hello all my intrepid friends.... ( fearless, adventurous, bold)! You have to be all these things to stay connected to me because I am like a moving train these days! Phew! I have been back and forth from the US. Just finished recording with the Grammy award winning film composer Mark Isham and some living Jazz legends ( see forthcoming EPK). Wow, such a beautiful experience. I actually went back to the same studio that I had visited over 20 yrs ago, then trying to get the septet released overseas. Before Nora Jones, Sade etc it was pretty rare to have a younger teenager performing jazz. And I was only 18 or so. I had met a big time jazz manager, who managed to persuade me out of pursuing jazz. He had said, quite assurredly "Well you know , your not really a jazz singer". To which I replied ( embarrassed)...no, of course not! What was I thinking!". I turned back home to OZ feeling young, foolish and lacking in confidence. And pretty much avoided singing jazz for 20 yrs. Can you imagine, going back into that studio ( pleased to note his absence) and get to have another crack at it 20 yrs later. It was like meeting and falling in love all over again with your school sweetheart. I was swooning with the quality of the players and their careful choice of accompanyment. Reminded me of what I loved about my sextet and never really appreciated at the time. No jazz police blowing all over the place trying to show each other up. Just pure, unadulterated beauty. The classic standards of course are and education in themselves and it was wonderful to strip it all back and get back to the guts of the arrangements. Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Cole Porter...wow top shelf stuff.

On arriving back to OZ another little hatchling had arrived. A friend of mine Dallis Cosmos ( from the Wonderfulls) has just finished mastering a project that we recorded several years back in my backyard. It is a collection of moody originals, very special peices, all carefully arranged and produced by Dallis. All songs co-written by the two of us and I even got to play drums on a couple of tracks ( at least a little scratchy snare). I loved that! We recorded this album just before I had been invited to be on Dancing with the Stars, and in a way ( although I loved the program to bits, as you all probably know), I was sad to have to let the project go by the wayside. It is a labour of love for Dal to have finished the work whilst I have been galavanting across the airwaves doing "Dancing" and "It takes two", but nevertheless time seems to taken nothing away from its quality and purpose. Dal and I share a common love for French pop songs and lyrics that flow like a stream of "Unconsciousness". He is tres groovy and we had a wonderful time experimenting in the studio in my back yard. It should be released sometime soon I hope, how? I've yet to work that out...but soon I promise.

Wedding bells are in the air this coming month and sadly ( to the women of OZ who have ever held a place in their hearts for my brother Phil)....he is finally tying the knot! About bloody time!

He say's dont bother sending gifts...just money! Only kidding!

Anyway, life continues to deliver the most interesting experiences and I'm loving being a part of it. Enjoy the new work, come to the gigs and I will continue to create musical wallpaper for your favorite events, ie birthdays, special nights with your pal, music to give birth to, to make babies to, to cry and laugh to.

Due to the success of Kate’s album So Much Beauty and being the face of the new range of Playtex garments, there have been a few more dates added to Kate’s busy schedule! Later this month, lucky fans in Melbourne will be given two opportunities to see Kate instore at both Myer Chadstone and Myer Melbourne for Playtex! Hi everyone!

Okay so where is everything at at the moment? Well I've been hanging with my mate Robbo writing songs, selling gorgeous bras for gorgeous gals, hanging out with all my mates including David Campbell who pipped me at the post for the Helpmann award; congratulations! .And of course saying gidday to my best mate Cate Blanchett ( I wish) who in every way is an absolute glowing beauty! She exemplifies what I consider beauty. She is educated, intelligent and talented, and a bombshell to boot. I thought the Helpmann event was spectacular too, no schleps in our theater in this country. Proud to be a part of it.

I'm off to LA in a week or so to make a significant return to my first love jazz. The honourable Mark Isham (multi Grammy award winning composer) and I will be getting lost in some of the finest songs ever written. I can hardly breathe at the thought of it.

» Instores and the Sydney Opera House gigs 14/05/2008

Just a wee update my friends in this little bit of time that I have to myself...(I promise I will get to personally answer some of your mail in this next coming week).

Thank you all for your support and your wonderful feedback regarding the instores and the Sydney Opera House gigs. Between you and me and the several thousands of people that got to see me over this week, I've gotta say that the Opera House gigs freaked me out. I had been for so long wanting to sing with the SSO and at the Opera House, it was a little too overwhelming to just relax into it and have a bit of fun. Oh well, it's good to be like that every once in a while. I loved singing with the gang and listening to the power of that majestic orchestra.

I also loved performing the instores with Phil, (brings me back to earth a little) i get to get out and chat and relax with the new material.

Singing has never felt so good!

Stay tuned for the tour dates and all the rest of the creative offerings i have in store for you over these next few months.

Patrick, I see Kate as a singer/songwriter and TV personality. I see her as a bright and happy person with a wonderful outlook on life. I see her as someone I admire for getting as far as she has and fighting for what it is that she wants, regardless of things working against her. I see her simply as a beautiful person who inspires me to find strength in myself and also to not only find the best in who I am, but in other people. It’s just bad manners to bring her personal life, namely her religion, into this discussion. It has absolutely nothing to do with … ANYTHING! To Patrick and others: my that's a complicated word to be using so late at night! I think the only sycophants here are those speaking against Kate in order to defend Kylie, when Kylie doesn't need defending in the first place. The comments were harmless and taken completely out of context from how they were intended. The fact that people have come to Kate Ceberano's OFFICIAL WEBSITE to have their say indicates, to me anyway, that Kate has already won favour. Kate's fans are loyal to her because of her service to them as an artist. Good on Kylie for also having loyal and dedicated fans. I have serious doubts that anyone’s comments here are going to do any good (or harm if that’s what’s intended) to either party involved (Kate or Kylie). All they achieve is to further upset people. Do you think Kylie is going to shower you with praise, or thank you personally, for your actions here? I doubt it, she’s more than likely not even aware of it. I still stand by what I said about Kate Ceberano! This is just because she realised that people are passionate about Kylie and everything she does... Kate's just gone into crash position because she has once again opened her mouth! What's wrong with enjoying yourself with some good ol' fashioned Pop music... I always have always will! And for those who say that Kylie can't sing... Have you ever seen her perform LIVE...? Probably not... Because you all think that you're all serious music lovers and that mentality is so 80's. I thought you might like to know that my mother has always told me the story how in the week I was born, the Women's Weekly featured an astrology article saying that babies born that week would make "wonderful nurses". I actually grew up wanting to be a nurse but, unfortunately, never quite made it. When Mum found out that you shared a birthday with me she pondered (and has pondered insesently once a year since), "Wow, I wonder if Kate Cebarano harbours a secret yearing to be a nurse as well?" It cracks me up. Heyy kate! First of all, a huge happy birthday!!! I just brought one myself and love it. you can get it from most of the big stores like Myer or David jones. im a size 20DD, but im sure i have seen most of their products in E, F and G as well. Hi Kate.. I'm such a fan, and have been for since 'BRAVE'.. Wondered if you've considered doing an acoustic/unplugged album of some of YOUR greatest hits over the years?? As cover albums do well, why not cover your own work?? It would be amazing...
