A Message from Kate
Well lots going on in my world! What can I say, never one to be shy of new challenges ( I may have bitten more that I can chew, but hey I'm not scared of nothin)!!!! Living dangerously is my motto!
This week heralded the arrival of my finished script that I've been working furiously on with my gal pal Sarah Walker in Sydney.
Why the mad panic? Yes, why?
Cause my mate David Campbell has so graciously offered a coveted position on this years "Adelaide Cabaret Festival" most magnificent showcase of artists.... Live, no less and this year! Hell and highballs!! Swallow that! Or suck it up as my nanny has been known to utter!
Whilst that rings like a cacophony of madness inside my brain, allow me to introduce another wee project also being christened this month... Drum roll brrrrrrrrrrrrrttapp! My first jazz album in 20 yrs ( I added a couple for effort) This is divine if I do say so myself. Boasting jazz greats like Peter Erskine on drums Tom Warrington on double bass and the sublime Alan Pasqua accompaniment on the piano. And last but not least the incomparable Mark Isham! Wow what a thrill to finally get this mad trumpeter - award winning film composer and seriously cool guy to play with me. Our last "experience" was opening the Sundance film festival. Well below zero, playing experimental jazz against a wall of electro orchestral music. Addictive stuff. Therein lies the background to the title "Bittersweet..." Not in the literal sense of the word but simply based on our personalities I guess.
He's the dark one ( at least that's the rumour I'm putting out) Aside from all that though, the record was recorded over a three day period in LA and mixed within the week. It's beautiful, sexy and something to wrap yourself in over a cold long weekend preferably with someone else! Not essential but certainly more enjoyable.
I'm working on several clandestine projects that I can't release yet but they involve siblings, children, famous painters and accordions.... And maybe just a dash of disco!
